Follow-up report: Delegation trip to Rwanda and the eLearning Africa

The Christiani team visited eLearning Africa from 25 May to 1 June 2024 and took part in activities organised by the iMove delegation as part of this event. In addition to the interface between technology and education in Rwanda, a major topic was the integration of virtual reality (VR) and digital solutions in technical and vocational education and training.

The trip was opened by a dinner with exciting discussions with delegates from various institutions and networking opportunities. The following day started with a briefing at the German Embassy, which highlighted the current economic situation in Rwanda. In order to support the young population with limited employment opportunities, the government is endeavouring to promote the private sector.

As the current focus is on the integration of VR and digital twins in vocational training, we had the opportunity to speak with the senior technologist Lambert Ntagwabira from the Ministry of ICT & Innovation (MINICT). After the interesting exchange, the team spent the afternoon at Rwanda Polytechnic to learn more about the implementation of the technologies.

The activities on 28 May centred on the promotion of employment growth as well as the current state of infrastructure and the need for low-tech solutions in rural areas.

eLearning Africa then started for the team on 29 May at the German pavilion. The presentation by Harald Fleischmann and Tristan White once again emphasised the above-mentioned interest in VR technology in education and demonstrated the potential to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

The interaction with various delegates and organisations during the event was invaluable and fostered relationships that will drive future collaborations and innovation in the field of educational technology.

We look forward to the future positive development of digital education in Rwanda and are proud to be a part of this progress.
